The 22 students who managed to get through Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) exams with the help of dummies in its 2011 batch are now set to lose their high-end jobs as the cyber police have registered a case against them.

The initial FIR was registered against six persons who allegedly operated the racket. Sources said the students under scanner for using dummies include children of bureaucrats and politicians.

Joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy confirmed filing of the FIR. An officer said they had written to firms where the 22 work, and will likely be sacked, but added that they will not be arrested at this stage.

The officer said Alok Kumar, the dummy, had given online entrance exams for several top management institutes in the city. “It is a huge racket and we have just nabbed one group involved. We suspect the involvement of several others,” the officer said.

Police are also checking the records of students who appeared for the 2012 batch, who are still studying at the institute, to find out if any of them got through using dummies.

The NMIMS authorities smelt a rat when they came across scores way above normal high scores, but the candidates did not seem as intelligent in the group discussion and interviews.
