The Khar police said the body was partially decomposed. The victim has been identified as Surendra Saha.

The fire brigade said local residents discovered the body opposite the Oshiana building, at around 7 pm in the evening.

“It was cast ashore by the sea. We got a call and immediately informed the Khar police,” said a fire brigade officer.

The police said the auto rickshaw driver sustained multiple head injuries.

“The post-mortem report revealed that there were head injuries inflicted with a sharp object,” said an officer from the Khar police station.

“A broken cell phone and a rickshaw badge, numbered 277537 was found on him.”

On the basis of Saha’s belongings, the police tracked down his elder brother, who resided in the Gazdarbandh slums at Santacruz (West).

“The victim’s brother said he had spoken to him two days ago and the latter seemed normal. He had no idea about what

could have gone wrong,” the officer said.

Investigations revealed that the victim had taken a loan from someone and was also an alcoholic. They are however, not denying the possibility that it could be a case of drowning.

“There could be a possibility that he might have sustained head injury after his head hit stones in the sea,” said Amitabh Gupta, additional commissioner of police, west region.

“However, we have registered a murder case,” the police added.
