28 Somali pirates captured

The Indian Navy and Coast Guards in a joint operation captured 28 Somali pirates off the coast of Lakshwadeep Islands on Sunday.

The Indian Navy and Coast Guards in a joint operation captured 28 Somali pirates off the coast of Lakshwadeep Islands on Sunday. The operation also saw 24 fishermen, mostly natives of Thailand, on board Prantalay-11, the hijacked fishing trawler.

On Saturday, the Western Naval Command of the Indian Navy received inputs from its warships that a Greek-flagged merchant ship MV Chios had experienced a concerted attack from pirates using high speed skiffs about 100 nautical miles west of Kavaratti island, said sources.

This is second such joint operation within a week off the coast of Lakshwadeep Islands.
