The police claim that they had planned Usha Srinivasan’s murder to finance the panchayat elections of one of the accused’s father in Uttar Pradesh.

On October 4, Srinivasan Subramaniam (55) had found his wife’s body in the bedroom of their flat at Green Society in Sector 21. She had been stabbed in her face, head, neck and shoulder. The police found that Rs 8,000 and jewellery worth 33,000 were missing.

After investigations, the zeroed in on the building watchman, Dinesh Verma (20), and the watchmen of a neighbouring building, Suresh Sharma (25). After interrogation, they revealed that Suresh’s nephew, Arun (24), had planned the murder.

As Arun had fled to his village in Allahabad, Ashok Dudhe, deputy commissioner of police, sent police teams to look for him.

“Arun’s father is contesting the panchayat elections in their village. Arun wanted money to finance his election and hence he planned the murder,” Galdhar said.

A team led by police sub-inspector Khatavkar caught Arun from Gavaniya Bazaar in Allahabad and brought him to Nerul on Sunday.

Arun too confessed to having killed Usha with his uncle and Suresh.
