4 arrested for stealing gold worth Rs. 76 lakh

The police, on Thursday, arrested four people for stealing a bag containing gold jewellery worth Rs. 76 lakh from a jeweller in Byculla in November 2011.

The police, on Thursday, arrested four people for stealing a bag containing gold jewellery worth Rs. 76 lakh from a jeweller in Byculla in November 2011.

The crime branch had arrested one of the five accused, Ashokkumar Nainar, for an attempted robbery last week, who confessed to his role in the Byculla robbery during his interrogation.

Nainar said he was a part of the gang that had robbed a jeweller Parasmal Jain on November 5, 2011.

Nainar disclosed the names of three of his accomplices identified as Sudhakar Porman, 35, Subramaniam Nainar, 23, and Prashant Salvi, 28. The trio was arrested by the police from Chembur on Thursday. Another accused is still on the run.

Nishikant Patil, senior inspector, crime branch unit 2, said, “We are questioning them about where the stolen booty is kept.” The accused were presented at court and have been remanded to police custody till January 16.
