4 burglaries in 24 hrs

Four separate incidents of house break-in were reported in the city between Friday night and Saturday.

Four separate incidents of house break-in were reported in the city between Friday night and Saturday.

The first incident was registered at Bhoiwada on Saturday, where burglars broke into the office of a 40-year-old man. The victim, identified as Ketan Sanya, alleged that unidentified burglars broke into his office and escaped with Rs1.12 lakh in cash.

Sanya claimed had had locked his office on Friday night when he left for home. When he came back on Saturday, however, he found that the locks had been broken and the drawers where he kept the cash were empty.

In the second incident, also registered on Saturday, burglars broke into the house of Jaralddin Rodrigues, a 48-year-old Kanjurmarg resident. The police said Rodrigues was out of town at the time of the incident. The burglars stole gold and silver jewellery worth around Rs16.02 lakh and cash worth Rs 60,000.

The third incident was registered in Kurar where burglars broke into a shop owned by a 44-year-old man.

According to Peter Fernandes, who owns the shop, when he opened the shop on Saturday, he found that 163 of his copper pipes were missing. The police ascertained that the burglars escaped items worth Rs4.1 lakh.

The last incident was registered in Bhandup, where burglars broke into the house of a 44-year-old man on Saturday. The police said Dattaram Mankar found his iron safe open when he came back home. He realised burglars had stolen gold jewellery and cash worth Rs4.01 lakh.
