455 mld more water for city after rains

Mumbaiites, who are facing a water shortage of 1,100 million litres per day (mld), now have a reason to smile. The BMC has announced the completion of the ambitious Middle Vaitarna dam project, which will start supplying an additional 455 mld water to the city after the monsoon.

Sitaram Kunte, municipal commissioner, along with Rajiv Jalota, additional municipal commissioner (projects), and other senior officers visited the dam site on Thursday. “The major work on the dam is complete. The remaining smaller works will be completed during this monsoon. We are hopeful that we will be able to supply water through this dam by August,” said Jalota.
