Two men were arrested by the Oshiwara police, along with their three accomplices, on Tuesday for robbing Rs 9 lakh, at Jogeshwari.

Munna Yadav (22) and Ram Ashish Yadav (21) were employed with a company responsible for depositing money in ATM machines and were in charge of depositing cash in HDFC Bank ATMs across the city.

The police said the employees of such companies who deposit cash in an ATM machine need to key in a 12-digit password to unlock the ATM.

As per rules, one employee is given a six-digit code and the rest of the password is given to the second employee.

On May 19, the duo along with the three other accused allegedly planned the robbery.

Dilip Suryavanshi, assistant commissioner of police, said “The duo arrived at an ATM near a petrol pump on SV Road with Rs 9 lakh but instead of depositing it in the ATM they put it in the vehicle arranged by their accomplices and fled.”

When the robbery was reported, the police immediately got the bio-datas of the two employees, as they were found absent from work.

“We received information that they were planning to flee to UP and so laid a trap at Kurla Terminus and caught them on
Tuesday,” said Suryavanshi.

The three accomplices have been identified as Ramesh Yadav (27), Ram Yadav (30) and Dharmendra Yadav (21).

The accused have been remanded to police custody until Friday.
