Following a report by the Hindustan Times on Friday highlighting the rip-off at BMC’s parking lots, civic officials decided to resume the surprise checks that had been halted around eight months ago.

A team of civic officials visited pay-and-park facilities at Crawford Market, Nariman Point, under JJ flyover and under Dadar flyover and found that contractors were charging motorists far more than the amount prescribed by the BMC.

The corporation has provisions for stern action like blacklisting contractors or having them forfeit security deposits.
