Over 50 volunteers of the Mumbai Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) began a three-day hunger strike at Azad Maidan on Monday demanding an independent or a CID probe into the tenders-awarding system of the BMC. They have also demanded a probe on the Sena-BJP combine, as, in the recent few meetings, the standing committee of the BMC has passed proposals worth crores of rupees within minutes.

"We have been wanting to take up this issue for a very long time, but the permissions materialised today," said Sadaf Aboli, president, MPYC.
