Reliance Infrastructure’s Dahanu Thermal Power Station (DTPS) has achieved yet another first. Reliance Infrastructure’s Dahanu Thermal Power Station (DTPS) has achieved yet another first. The 500 MW project, around 100km north of Mumbai, has emerged the only power plant in the world to win a certification -— ISO 50001:2011 — for energy management systems and endeavours in the field of energy use and environment conservation.

A global firm Bureau Veritas Certification endorsed DTPS recently after auditing various energy management systems and its impact on the greenhouse gas emissions. ISO 50001:2011 is the new standard for energy management developed by the International Standard Organisation.

RInfra chief executive Lalit Jalan told HT that they used minimum electricity for running the large equipment in the station. “We make better use of existing energy-consuming assets to save energy and thereby transmit more electricity to Mumbai which gets the entire 500MW from us.”
