Baby abandoned in back seat of Trombay autorickshaw

A two-month-old boy was found abandoned in the back seat of an autorickshaw in Trombay on Sunday night. The Trombay police have registered a case against the parents, yet unknown, of the boy for abandoning him.

Around 11pm on Sunday, when the auto driver Abdul Shaikh, 51, went to remove the cushion of the back seat of his three-wheeler, he was surprised to find the baby on the back seat. Shaikh had parked the auto near his Shankar Nagar residence at Trombay around an hour before, police said.

“Shaikh then went home to have dinner. When he returned to take the cushion, he found the baby,” said an officer from the Trombay police.

Shaikh informed his neighbours following which the local Trombay police were told about the incident

Deputy commissioner of police (Zone VI) Vijay Vhatkar said the boy was sent to Sion hospital for a medical check up. He will subsequently be handed over to the children’s home, till such time that his parents are traced.

The police have registered a case under section 317 of the Indian Penal Code that stands for exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years, by parent or person having care of it.
