The protest was in reaction to the alleged harassment of Mohammed Saleem, a Kurla-based civil engineer, by security guards at the Israeli Consulate. Saleem, who sports a beard, was spotted strolling near the consulate and questioned.

“This fight is for the civil and human rights of every individual to sport beards, dress how they like and walk where they like,” said Aslam Ghazi, the spokesperson of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, which participated in the protest.
