As the general manager has left for election duty, the committee members fear that if anything goes wrong during the final match, BEST will be held responsible.

The BEST committee, which consists of representatives from political parties and workers’ unions, complained in a meeting on Thursday that the general manager, OP Gupta, left for Assam without formally transferring the charge to his deputy.

The public undertaking will supply power to the stadium during the match and also run special buses in the stadium’s parking lots.

“If an emergency decision has to be taken, who will be responsible for it? The general manager has written a letter stating that his deputy should contact him in Assam, which is not practically possible,” said Ravi Raja, BEST committee member.

Sanjay Potnis, the chairman of the BEST committee had written a letter to mayor Shraddha Jadhav on March 22, stating that the civic body should request the state government not to send the administrative head of BEST undertaking on such duties because he is essential for day-to-day decision-making.
