The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Saturday made the second arrest in the case of the 25-year-old woman whose body was found in an abandoned suitcase at CST station.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Saturday made the second arrest in the case of the 25-year-old woman whose body was found in an abandoned suitcase at CST station.
The police arrested Amol Karanjule, 19, who, allegedly assisted the main accused, Pravin Thakre, 29, in disposing of the body of the woman, Roshni.
Pravin, arrested on Saturday, was allegedly Roshni's live-in partner. He is currently in police custody. Prabhat Kumar, GRP commissioner, said that Thakre led the police to Karanjule. Thakre, a painter, and Karanjule, who has a diploma from the Industrial Training Institute, packed the body in a trolley suitcase after Pravin murdered Roshni.
After Roshni's body was found on September 26, GRP officials circulated CCTV footage obtained from CST to police stations in Pune and Mumbai and surrounding areas.
"Pravin was in a spot after the murder as neighbours began to ask him about Roshni's absence, and his former landlord also approached him saying he could identify Karanjule from the CCTV grabs published in newspapers. He contemplated fleeing to Gujarat. But an informer called up the Pune railway crime branch on Friday and he was caught," Kumar said.
The police said Roshni and Pravin had frequent arguments over Pravin's romantic affairs. On September 25, Pravin and Roshni had another fight when Pravin allegedly strangled her with a piece of cloth and killed her. Pravin and Karanjule then disposed of Roshni's body.
