Rane, known for his no-nonsense approach, came down heavily on officers, especially those from agriculture department, for their lack of vision to help sustain farming in distressed conditions. An officer said, Rane got angry over the agriculture officers’ routine presentation on the next kharif season in the Konkan region.

The minister is not satisfied with agriculture department because of its lackluster approach in farmers’ suicide-affected areas. An officer, requesting anonymity, said Rane expected the bureaucrats to be the think tank of the government. “Rane said the document we presented today was the same that was being presented in every annual meeting for the last 25 years.”

Rane justified his speech. “I feel that the officers must change their outdated approach towards everything that matters. Ideas bring change.”
