Bus operators have been asked to keep a list that will have include the name, age, address, relative’s contact number and travelling destinations of each passenger. Although this rule was already established in the city, it wasn’t strictly followed by either bus operators or authorities.

However, following the accident of a luxury bus near Khed in March, in which 37 people lost their lives, the transport commissioner office sent out notices to all Regional Transport Offices (RTO) to ensure that operators maintain the list properly.

Bus operators will have to keep two copies of the list — one for their records and the other for RTO officials, if they ask for it, said a senior RTO official, adding that this list will help to provide emergency relief to passengers in case of an accident.
