The police have questioned a majority of auto drivers in the Chembur-Chunabhatti stretch, but nothing has come of it so far.

“Since the driver could have come from other parts of the city, we have asked auto unions to help us in tracking him down,” said an officer from the RCF police station. Another officer investigating the case said, “We found the victim’s purse near the spot from where she was abducted. We are trying to find the route taken by the accused after the abduction.”

S Shelke, senior inspector, RCF police station, said, “We are investigating this case on priority basis and have formed teams that are probing it from several angles.”

The incident took place on Monday when the victim, who suffers from a mental disorder, slipped out of her house alone. The accused allegedly pushed her into an auto-rickshaw, raped her and dropped her at Chunabhatti.
