Th city may have missed the bus for building the Formula One track in the city, but it may get a chance to witness an ‘air race’.
Tourism minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who had expressed disappointment at the city and the state missing out on hosting a prestigious event like F-1, on Tuesday met up with a joint delegation from the Austrian Trade Commission and Red Bull Air Race company that wants to hold the Air Race World Championship in Mumbai in 2013.
The Red Bull Air Race World Championship will see 12 super pilots compete with 12 others in the race.
The organisers met Bhujbal seeking co-operation and partnership from the Maharashtra Tourism Development Department for the event and the minister assured all possible help.
“The event will allow Mumbaiites to witness a thrilling and spectacular race from Marine Drive. It will be held in 10 global cities and organisers are keen on making Mumbai a part of it,’’ said Bhujbal. However, he said that event will not put financial burden on the state or lead to any environmental degradation.
