Sheikh Sayed, a city resident, was deboarded from a Mumbai-bound Air India flight and arrested while his associate Mahender Sharma who managed to fly to Patna was apprehended on his arrival there.

A senior CISF official said the arrests came following investigations into a complaint filed by a passenger that he was robbed of Rs 8,000 during check-in.

CCTV footages showed that their movements were suspicious and they were tracked down. "They were also involved in a theft of Rs 1.40 lakh on October 28. We had checked the footage then and had zeroed in on them,” the official said.

“We checked up with airline officials and found that Sayed was in the aircraft. He was deboarded and taken into custody. However, Sharma flew to Patna and we alerted our staff there,” the official said.

Sharma is from Begusarai, Bihar. He and another gang member Sheikh Nizamuddin were allegedly involved in a theft in Ahmedabad in August.
