The BJP leader was speaking at a function to unveil a wax statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Mumbai.

The statue has been made by artist Sunil Kandallor, who has set up a celebrity wax museum in Lonavala along the lines of London’s famous Madame Tussauds.

Lauding the Vajpayee government’s achievements, Gadkari said that the present UPA government had stalled the economic growth of the country.

“The Foreign Direct Investment in our country has stopped. Those who have invested are also going back. Even Indian industrialists have started moving their businesses out of the country,” he said.

Gadkari claimed that the NDA-led states were consistently performing better in development as well as other human indices. He quoted the example of Madhya Pradesh, which managed to increase its agricultural growth from 2.8% to 17.8% in three years.

Gadkari added that in troubled times, a country needs leadership with a development vision and the leaders to have a decision making power.

He claimed that under the UPA, all of these seemed to be lacking.
