Sabah had approached the family court in May seeking divorce and compensation of Rs 5 crore from Sami.
Sami told the court that after his divorce with Sabah in April 2004, he remarried her in April 2007. Sami claimed she had not complied with halala formalities. According to the Sharia law, a woman to remarry her previous husband has to marry another Muslim man, consummate that marriage and divorce him. According to Sharia law, non-compliance of halala invalidates the remarriage. “Sabah had not completed the halala formalities,” said his lawyer Vaibhav Krishna.
Sabah’s lawyer Mrinalini Deshmukh was not available for comments.
