The Samta Nagar police said Rahul Tasgaonkar lives in the residential quarters of Kamgaar hospital at Akruli Road in Kandivli. His father, Vijay, is a doctor at the hospital while Rahul had recently started working as an activist with a political party after he quit his engineering studies.

Around 10.30pm on Saturday, Rahul was crossing the road outside his building when an Innova car approached him. Rahul gestured to the driver to slow down as he wanted to cross the road. The driver, however, started hurling obscenities at Rahul. After the two had a heated argument, the driver, Mahendra Dillod, 26, a local party worker from Mira Road, drove off.

The police said half-an-hour later, Dillod returned with another car, a Maruti Swift. The Innova and Swift now had two occupants each. Dillod looked for Rahul and found him sitting in the compound of his building, following which the four hauled Rahul into the Innova and drove off. After Rahul’s friends informed his father of the incident, his father filed a kidnapping complaint with Samta Nagar police station.

N Kamble, senior inspector of Samta Nagar police station said the four accused have been booked. “Rahul’s friends had noted the registration numbers of the vehicles. We traced the Swift and arrested Dillod from Bhayander on Monday. The Swift has been seized. Further investigation is in progress,” he said.
