'Don't tweet about location of nakabandis'
The flood of messages on social networking sites updating users on the locations of nakabandi in the city has become a cause of concern for the traffic police department.
The traffic police say the updates hamper their efforts to catch drivers under the influence of alcohol. This can also be considered to be a breach of security norms in the city, they added.
Some of the tweets reveal the location of the nakabandi and alert their friends to take an alternate road to avoid getting caught when driving under the influence of alcohol.
The traffic police said it is necessary for people to avoid intervening in the issues of the security of the city. “Users of such sites need to understand that nakabandis for drink driving or for any other purpose is for the betterment of the citizens,” said a traffic police officer, who did not wish to be named.
Some officers said, however, that some of the tweets asking people to opt for public transport if under the influence of alcohol help their campaign against drink driving. “We will start keeping a close watch on such sites to find a way to deal with the problem,” said Brijesh Singh, additional commissioner of police (traffic).
