Driver killed as speeding car hits parked truck

A 23-year-old college student was killed on Saturday, when his speeding Honda City rammed into a parked truck near a junction on the Link Road in Andheri (West).

A 23-year-old college student was killed on Saturday, when his speeding Honda City rammed into a parked truck near a junction on the Link Road in Andheri (West).

The incident happened when the deceased tried to avoid a taxi, which was taking a sharp turn at the same junction, the police said.

According to police records, the accident took place around 5.30 am when Vibhav Talwalkar, a resident of Carter Road in Bandra was on his way back to Bandra from Lokhandwala. He was driving at a speed above 120 kmph, witnesses told the police.

Talwalkar, in order to avoid a taxi, which was coming from the opposite direction and

entering into the same lane as his car, reportedly took a very sharp. However, he lost control and rammed into a parked truck.

“The impact of the collision was such that Talwalkar died on the spot,” said police sub-inspector Vijay Kadam of Amboli police station.

Kadam added that his car was also severely crushed due to the impact. Talwalkar was rushed to the Cooper Civic Hospital in Juhu but was declared dead before admission, the officials added.

Adam Siddiqui (46), the taxi driver was arrested later on charges of negligence and rash driving.

The police have not been able to ascertain whether Talwalkar was under the influence of alcohol and are waiting for the post mortem report.

The police officials said that they have not been able to record the statement of the deceased’s family as they were in the mourning.
