"The Commission had announced by-election from 130-Palghar (ST) assembly constituency to fill vacancy in the legislative assembly of Maharashtra...it has been brought to the commission's notice that an election petition is pending in Bombay Bench of high court of Bombay...," the EC said in a statement in New Delhi.

It said, keeping in mind that the matter is sub judice, it is cancelling its announcement of by-election "for the time being".

The seat fell vacant following the death of Palghar MLA Krushna Ghoda on May 24. The bypoll was to take place on June 27.
