Engg scam: Cops say 18 students benefitted last year
MUMBAI: The probe into the university engineering exam answer sheets scam revealed that around 18 students benefitted from the scam last year, said a source. The police are yet to identify these students.
“The students gave the barcode details to the middlemen and the staffers. Now, the staffers are unable to tell us the lengthy barcodes or the identities of the students involved in cheating during previous year,” said a police officer.
During the probe, the police have also recovered five more answer sheets, apart from the 92 recovered earlier. Besides, the police have also learnt about the involvement of two more university staffers, who are on the run.
DCP (zone 7) Vinay Rathod on Tuesday said they are looking out for the two. “We had earlier seized 92 answer sheets and now five more sheets have been recovered, taking the total seizure to 97,” said Rathod.
