According to the police, a case has been registered under section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.
Chandrakant Naik, senior police inspector of the Yellow Gate police station said, “We will be contacting the owners of the vessel. Further investigations into the case are on.”
MV Pavit, which was flagged for Panama, ran aground around 11.30am on Sunday off Silver beach (which is located at the north-end of Juhu beach). The police suspect that the vessel might have drifted in from the Persian Gulf.
“This is the second incident in which big vessels have been stranded off the Juhu beach (The first being MV Wisdom). On both the occasions, major mishaps have been averted, as fortunately, the vessels did not hit the Bandra-Worli sea link. Had that happened, it would caused major damage to human lives and property,” said Naik.
