Airport officials said most of these flights scheduled to land in the city between 7 pm and 8pm were diverted to the neighbouring airport.

This was a first major disruption to air traffic after the IMD declared the official arrival of monsoon in the city. The MIAL confirmed the diversions citing bad weather and air congestion.

Five Pune-bound flights were also diverted to the city.

Tuesday despite being another rain-soaked day, flight movements were comparably smoother.

A few flights were delayed because the main runway was shut for two hours for routine weekly maintenance.
