Forgery case filed against construction company

Some residents of Dhobi Ghat in the Mahalaxmi area of south Mumbai have lodged a case against a construction major, accusing the firm of forgery and cheating in connection with redevelopment of the Rs 150-cr plot.

Police said the dispute is over redevelopment of the plot. Jai Chamunda CHS and Om Sai Dhobi Vikas CHS, two of the three cooperative housing societies on the plot, oppose handing over the project to Lokhandwala Infrastructure Pvt Ltd under the SRA scheme. The third society, Sai Baba CHS, backs the builder.

The complaint against Lokhandwala has been lodged by Vishram Padam, chairman of Jai Chamunda CHS. He has accused the builder of forging the signatures of several residents.

Mohamed Lokhandwala, chairman of the Lokhandwala Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, said, “The allegations made by the residents of Chamunda society are false. They have been blackmailing us for sometime now. We will be taking legal action against them."

Rajvardhan Sinha, additional commissioner of police (Economic Offences Wing), said, “The case against Lokhandwala Infrastructure Pvt Ltd has been registered on charges of cheating and forgery. We have not made any arrests. We will first investigate the claims and then decide on a course of action.”
