Officials investigating the abduction and murder the Thakur college student said the accused Kalpesh Soni, 25, and Ravindra Yadav, 22, gave in during interrogation on Friday.

"We have videotaped the confession of the accused as per provisions of the new Criminal Procedure Code. This evidence will be produced before the court," said S Nishandar, additional superintendent of police (Thane). "We are preparing a water-tight case against the duo so that conviction is ensured," he added.

Police officials also revealed that Soni had made at least 10 ransom calls to Sriram's family. "We are obtaining the phone records of the accused to corroborate their statement," said an officer from the Kashimira police, who did not wish to be named.

Ganesh, a second-year BCom student, was kidnapped and murdered by the two youth, who were his friends. Soni and Yadav lured Ganesh to a forest Naigaon under the pretext of returning Rs1 lakh that Kalpesh had taken as loan from his father. However, the two accused murdered Ganesh and smashed his face with a stone, before disposing his body in the Naigaon creek.
