The roads and nullahs in Gorai, which is connected to the city via a sea-route, have seen minimal civic services, say the three panellists of HT monsoon citizens’ audit. The pre-monsoon maintenance work done in the ward is dismal. The panellists have rated the nullah-desilting work and the condition of roads with a low four on 10.|

The Gorai cross nullah was only desilted once . The panellists claimed that it is an indication of how the BMC has been ignoring issues in this region.

“The road connectivity to Gorai is only through the highway. It takes almost half an hour to reach here. But, that is no reason for the BMC to neglect us,” said Royston Goudinho, deputy sarpanch of the Mobai Goathan Panchayat, Gorai.

While local residents said that the nullah overflows every year flooding the nearby areas, the roads in the ward are no better.

“This year, the drain covers on the roads are broken and potholes have formed on most of them even before the monsoon has completely set in,” said Rossi D’souza, sarpanch, Panchayat.

When contacted, assistant municipal commissioner of R Central ward, Vijayanand Bole, said: “I will direct my officers to look into the issues and will see that they are addressed.”
