Aside from helping organise small private dos, party planners are also offering special arrangements for families at the larger events. These include separate entertainment rooms for children, trampolines and colouring contests.

“Some people are still opting for house parties, because then their kids can enjoy themselves and they too have nothing to worry about,” said Vanita Rodrigues, co-partner of Joyride Party organisers.

Deepa Kochhar, mother of two, will be organising one such do at her place, with friends who also have children.

“It’s nice to usher in the New Year with one’s kids,” she said.

The children will have their own party of sorts, in their room.

“We normally don’t like leaving the kids alone with the domestic help,” said Kochhar. “Home is a great place to have a get-together. With good friends around, what more could you ask for?”

The children’s entertainment for the evening tends to start early (around 6.30 pm) and finishes by 11 pm.
