The city continued to witness incessant rain on Sunday with weather stations at both south Mumbai and the suburbs recording 9.6 mm rain.
Weathermen said even though September is officially the last month in the monsoon season, the city could witness heavy rain even in the last few weeks of the month.
The city also received rain through Saturday night. The 24-hour data from the from the India Meteorological Department says, between 8.30am on Saturday to 8.30am on Sunday, Colaba recorded 50mm rain while Santacruz received 26mm rain.
"An upper air cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan has resulted in rain for the city. A low pressure area formed over north east Arabian sea is also responsible for the monsoon condition," said V K Rajeev, director, western region, IMD. “Both these monsoon systems have now merged and rainfall is likely to continue with a decrease in intensity.”
Weathermen have forecast heavy rain in some areas and occasional spells of rain in parts of city and suburbs on Monday.
Meanwhile, services on Konkan Railway resumed on Sunday after the slush accumulated on the tracks at Pomendi in Ratnagiri was cleared after two days.
