Two police officials have designed a website that will contain an hour-wise information about the happenings on the state and national highways.

Superintendent of Police (highway) B.G. Shekhar and constable P.B. Sonawane have designed and programmed the website: www.highwaypolicems.in, which will be inaugurated by Director General of Police Arup Patnaik at Dasturi near Khandala on Thursday.
“To oversee the function (traffic) and control the area, Internet is the best option. That’s how the idea of having our website came up,” said Shekhar, who is an engineer. Since the department could not afford a computer firm they gave the responsibility to Shekhar and Sonawane who are well versed with computer operations.
While Shekhar conceptualised the portal, Sonawane fed the data. The website will provide updates on landslides, fogs, traffic jams and roadblocks.
“Motorists can plan their journey accordingly,” said Sonawane.
Motorists can enlist their complaints online. The operation will be monitored from the highway police headquarters at Old Custom’s house.
