Nearly 13 years after his jewellery shop was burgled, Tarachand Soni, owner of Rajashree Jewellers, Mulund, will receive compensation of Rs19.25 lakh from Oriental Insurance Company Ltd. against his insurance claim of Rs. 8.29 lakh.

Soni’s shop was burgled on August 5, 1999 and ornaments and cash worth Rs8.29 lakh were stolen. The insurance company repudiated his claim claiming grounds that their private investigator had found that the theft had taken place with the help of a duplicate key, indicating the owner was negligent. The consumer commission found there was no basis for this conclusion.
