Sooraj, who was arrested on June 10 for allegedly driving actor Jiah Khan to commit suicide, contended that though Jiah got good work initially, recently she had been out of work.

The plea said Jiah was depressed after she was rejected for a film for being underweight. “She has also had an extremely turbulent past and a family history, which made her very vulnerable,” it added.

Seven days after Jiah ended her life the police booked and arrested Sooraj on the basis of a six-page suicide note purportedly written by her, accusing him of mental and physical exploitation.

On June 21, a sessions court had rejected his bail peal noting there was prima facie evidence to connect him with the offence - of abetting Jiah's suicide.

The court had observed that she was depressed after she was forced to have an abortion and Sooraj's constant mental and physical torture pushed her to end her life.
