The camp was allegedly organised to mark the birthday of Dr Gavit's brother, Sharad Gavit, on April 8.

The doctors are expected to resume duty on Wednesday.“For the last four days, no senior doctor has come to the hospital wards,” said Sadanand Deshmukh, 18, a patient who has travelled from Jalna for treatment.

The hospital dean, Dr TP Lahane, four heads of departments and heads of the units went for the Nandurbar camp along with doctors from the surgery, gynaecology, medicine, ophthalmology, skin, ear nose throat (ENT), paediatric, biochemistry and orthopaedic departments.

Dr Ashok Rathod, acting dean, said that the Directorate of Medical Education and Research Department (DMER) had asked the hospital to hold the camp as per the directives of the minister.

However, Vilas Savde, personal assistant of Dr Gavit said that camp had been organised to extend medical care to the tribal area and not the mark the birthday of Gavit’s brother.
