The report was prepared by a committee comprising educationists and headed by former chief of Atomic Energy Commission Anil Kakodkar, which submitted the report titled ‘Higher Education in Maharashtra, Preparing for the future — New Ideas and Pathways’ to the state on Thursday.

“We will put up the report on our website so that everyone can access it and give their feedback,” said a government official.

The report recommends one regulatory body for all universities, doing away with elections for governing bodies with the vice-chancellor being the sole administrative head of a university.

“Currently the university system is very politicised and if the recommendations end up minimising that, it will be commendable,” said Abhay Pethe, head of economics department at the University of Mumbai.
