"Her (Kalavati's) son-in-law threatened that he would commit suicide if she contests the Maharashtra assembly poll," Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti, the NGO supporting her candidature said.

The NGO has fielded another farmer widow Babytai Bais from Wani seat.

Kalavati had shot into national focus after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had mentioned her plight in Parliament after a tour of Vidarbha where several debt-ridden farmers committed suicide.
