Kerala is battling torrential rain, flash floods and landslides after relentless monsoon showers triggered widespread devastation across the state. At least eight people have lost their lives, with fatalities reported from Idukki and Kottayam districts, while several others are feared trapped under landslide debris. Floodwaters have inundated homes, shops and roads in several areas, disrupting normal life. The Kerala government has launched relief and rescue operations, opened relief camps and urged residents in vulnerable areas to move to safety. The IMD has issued a red alert for eight districts, warning of more heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.
