Maharaja readies to run cross-country

One of the world’s most high-end luxury trains — the Maharaja Express — has arrived in Mumbai, reports Rajendra Aklekar.

One of the world’s most high-end luxury trains — the Maharaja Express — has arrived in Mumbai.

The train is parked at the Kurla yard and is set to roll out from the city on Saturday to Delhi via a host of tourist spots.

Officials at the yard were impressed by its golden brown looks and crowds of railway employees and commuters thronged to photograph the swank train as its was

“shunted” in the yard for its journey.

“It is among the world’s top luxury trains, promises seven-star facilities such as LCD screens, DVD players, telephones, and Internet connection. The train also has a filtration plant in each wagon, temperature control and large bathrooms. It has environment-friendly toilet systems and has,” an official from the Indian Railway Catering Tourism Corporation.

The train has a royal banquet for passengers as the train has two fine dining restaurants that seat 42 persons at a time.

Wine and beer served while dining will come complimentary.

One exotic bar with the choicest collection of house brands of beers, wines and spirits with snacks come complimentary to every passenger.

There’s also one Observation lounge with its own bar, game tables and comfortable club arm-chairs.

The Maharaja Express will start its eight-day and seven-night journey to Delhi, covering Vadodara, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Ranthambore and Agra.
