The police said the body was found around 8.30am. The stationmaster at Malad railway station received information about a body lying near the tracks. He in turn informed the government railway police (GRP). The Malad police was also alerted about the incident.

The police said the deceased, who appeared to be in his thirties, was wearing a white shirt, black trousers and slippers.

His head had been crushed with a big stone, presumably with an intention to erase his identity, the police said. The police could not find any identification papers on his person. The stone used for the crime was found lying next to the body. “It is a clear case of murder,” said PM Karyakarte, senior inspector of Borivli GRP.
