The dead man, Faizan Ansari, and Fakir, had been working at the Taj Mahal bakery in the Malwani area of Malad (West) for the past two months. While Ansari was a worker in the bakery, Fakir, who is physically challenged, was a cook.

The motive behind the murder was that Fakir had caught Ansari stealing a colleague’s meal, police said. "Fakir had prepared a meal for all staff on Friday afternoon and one of them decided to eat later. Fakir caught Ansari stealing that colleague’s lunch and confronted him. The duo got into a verbal spat," said Abdulrauf Shaikh, senior inspector.

Late that night, Fakir stabbed Ansari with a knife and when his colleagues woke up, he threatened everyone and fled. The police traced Fakir to Virar.
