The Nerul police have arrested Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Navi Mumbai vice-president Datta Ghangale for the murder of Mathadi union leader Balasaheb Chaudhary.
Ghangale’s is the second arrest in the case. Last month, the police arrested Vikas Auti, a 26-year-old Shiv Sena shaka pramukh and an office bearer of the Akhil Mathadi Transport and General Kamgar union, of which Ghangale is the president.
The police arrested Ghangale around 10.30pm on Saturday, a day after he was appointed to the post of MNS vice-president.
Ahmed Pathan, inspector (crime) of the NRI police station, said Ghangale had been engaged in a union rivalry with Chaudhary. A resident of sector 24, Chaudhary was the president of the MNS Mathadi Kamgar, union and transport.
Auti used to work in Chaudhary’s union but was sacked for bad behaviour. Auti then joined Ghangale’s Mathadi union, but was upset with Chaudhary, police said. Sources said call records between Ghangale and Auti helped the police charge Ghangale.
