Mobile firm in power theft row

State power distribution company Mahavitaran has filed a first information report (FIR) at a special police station in Latur against Vodaphone Essar Cellular Ltd for misappropirating electricity worth about Rs 5 lakh.

State power distribution company Mahavitaran has filed a first information report (FIR) at a special police station in Latur against Vodaphone Essar Cellular Ltd for misappropirating electricity worth about Rs 5 lakh.

The company is accused of unofficially connecting its mobile phone tower to the Mahavitaran network in the Mansingh Tanda village, in Mukhed in the Nanded district of Marathwada.

Spokesperson for Vodafone Essar, Suresh Rangarajan, said, “We are not aware of any such development and will comment only after seeing the FIR.”
