This was a part of a mock drill carried out by the Marine Drive police, bomb disposal and dog squad at 11.30am on Friday.

“It was a surprise mock drill. After we received a call from the control room, we reached the spot in five minutes and barricaded the area,” said ZM Gharal, senior police inspector.

The management and guests were surprised but co-operated with the police. Three police vans with more than 30 officers rushed to the hotel to secure it.

Dressed in bombproof gear, the bomb squad reached the spot and began searching the premises. The squad officers searched the compound and interior of the hotel while the policemen barricaded the hotel.

“We carried on an extensive search for more than two hours but found nothing. Then we were informed about the mock drill,” said Gharal.

“The drill was carried out to check our response time and alertness of the Marine Drive policemen. We completed the drill on time,” he added.
