After a day of waiting to spot the moon, Muslims across India finally did so on Monday night, a signal for the holy month of Ramzan to begin.

After a day of waiting to spot the moon, Muslims across India finally did so on Monday night, a signal for the holy month of Ramzan to begin. The community will begin its 30 days of fasting from Tuesday.

“The moon could not be seen in Mumbai because of the monsoon clouds, but we received news of sightings in various cities across the country,” said Maulana Mahmood Ahmed Khan Daryabadi, general secretary of the All India Ulema Council, who announced the start of Ramzan for Muslims in the city.
