Mumbai: 4 get life term in hooch case

Four persons were sentenced to life imprisonment and 15 others were awarded two-year jail term by a local court in a hooch tragedy case in which 87 people lost their lives in a suburb here in 2004.

Dayaram Mhatre, Pandit Kalan, Pradeep D'mello and Vishnu Mhatre were sentenced to life imprisonment by sessions judge WK Kandankar for making spurious liquor, while 15 others got two years jail term for supplying the country liquor.

The incident had occurred on December 25, 2004 in suburban Vikhroli 285 persons were hospitalised after they consumed country liquor, mixed with methanol. Of these, 87 people, including two women, died during treatment.
