According to Navghar police, the accused Kantilal Bhanushali, 42, a resident of Airoli, a developer was found with the amber beacon on his swift car and was stopped by the traffic police at Airoli toll naka in Mulund at 12.20pm.Bhanushali was brought to the Navghar police station and a case was registered.
“Investigations revealed that Bhanushali was using the amber beacon even though it cannot be used by private vehicles.
The offences are bailable,” said the officer. Bhanushali was arrested under relevant sections of the Central Motor Vehicle Act.
Assistant sub inspector Shekhar Harne and constable Sachin Ghadge from Vikhroli traffic division were on duty when they found Bhanushali’s car with the beacon.
“He (Bhanushali) took names of politicians,” said Harne.
Traffic police said they will hand over such offenders to the local police to initiate actions under IPC than the Motor Vehicle Act (MVA). “Such offenders pay fine under the MVA act and get away. The IPC will act as a deterrent,” said Harne.
